Sam is head of landscape planning and management in LUC and has considerable experience as an expert witness and in the fields of landscape/ seascape/ townscape and visual assessment; landscape design; landscape planning and feasibility; landscape management and construction; as well as wider environmental and project management.
She has carried out a large number of landscape and visual assessments for Environmental Impact Assessment, including for renewable energy, major infrastructure and transportation, mineral extraction, water resources, schools and utilities projects. She also leads landscape character assessments and strategic landscape sensitivity and capacity studies.
Sam provides landscape advice for projects from inception through to completion, including preparing concept and detailed landscape designs and design guides for planning applications. She produces landscape management plans, environmental management plans, and environmental inputs for method statements. She has been involved in the implementation of major infrastructure projects on site, including as employer’s representative and in auditing for environmental compliance with BSEN ISO 14001.
She acts as expert witness at examination, parliamentary hearings and public inquiries, and has prepared precognitions and proofs of evidence, and as well as written and graphical productions for public inquiries in the UK and Ireland.
Outside work: Sam loves her garden and allotment as well as mountains, rocks, rivers and seas, both close to home or in exotic lands.
