LUC has helped to secure a £4.3m grant for the Grade I Listed Charterhouse in Coventry after preparing the Landscape Design and Management documents for a successful Stage II application.
The Historic Coventry Trust is working with Coventry City Council to restore the 14th Century St Annes Charterhouse, which hasn’t been open to the public in 80 years, to create a new heritage attraction, complemented by new visitor facilities including a cafe, shop and small conference venue.
The landscape will be enhanced to provide an appropriate setting for the buildings and visitor infrastructure including a new car park, playground, pedestrian circulation and tree planting. A historic orchard will be recreated along with a monastic pond with viewing deck and planting. A series of historic gardens will tell the story of the evolution of garden design through the years.
The detailed design process will begin shortly followed by construction works which are due to be completed by 2020.
