The National Trust has shared its spatial framework for 8 Hills Regional Park, crafted by LUC.
The framework sets out the aspirations for the potential regional park in improving access to nature, enhancing the recreational experience and boosting the biodiversity and ecological connectivity of the area.
LUC's experts prepared the framework, which identifies spatially specific opportunities to enhance access, recreation and nature connectivity, developed through stakeholder engagement and community consultation.
The framework also incorporates a high-level public transport study, boundary recommendations and recommendations on the governance and partnership structure for the regional park.
The proposed regional park sits on Birmingham’s southern fringe, taking in areas of Bromsgrove District Council, Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council and Birmingham City Council.
Commissioned by the National Trust, LUC's spatial framework also provides policy recommendations for the inclusion of the regional park in Bromsgrove District Council's Local Plan.
LUC's multidisciplinary team, including planners, landscape planners, and ecologists, completed the initial phase in April 2023.
This involved data analysis, stakeholder consultations, and vision development. The finalised framework is the starting point to bring 8 Hills to life.
The framework is dynamic and has been prepared to facilitate future evolution through collaboration with partners and stakeholders.
