Dumfries & Galloway Council has approved the extension proposals for Glenglass Substation. LUC supported SP Energy Networks throughout the consenting process.
The extension to the existing substation involves a new access road, a compound area, and associated infrastructure. This proposed development will support the Glenmuckloch to Glenglass 132kV reinforcement project, as well as provide capacity for Glenmuchloch and Sanquhar 2 wind farms.
Working alongside Kaya Consulting and Mott MacDonald, LUC's Planning, Ecology, Heritage, Landscape Planning and geospatial teams, and GIS teams contributed towards various elements of this project which included:
- Preparing and submitting an Environmental Impact Assessment screening request
- Undertaking online pre-application consultation
- Producing a Public Accounts Committee report
- Forming a Design and Access Statement
- Collating an environmental appraisal report
Technical appendices formed part of the supporting documents in the application to Dumfries & Galloway Council.
On 11 October 2023, SP Energy Networks took the proposed development to the planning committee. The council unanimously agreed the proposals, subject to conditions.
