LUC has completed the Herefordshire Natural Environment Evidence project, using web-based outputs to increase accessibility for the local community.
Herefordshire Council commissioned the project in June 2022. Its outcomes support the delivery of the new Local Plan by providing a digital framework to guide sustainable development.
The project provides Local Plan evidence as a usable resource for both planners, developers and a wide audience of stakeholders, across four studies:
- The Green and Blue Infrastructure Strategy ensures a unified approach across the county, tying together the findings and conclusions of the three other studies. It provides a network of multifunctional green and blue spaces delivering a range of benefits for people, wildlife and the environment.
- The Landscape Character Assessment identifies and explains the unique combination of elements and features that make the landscapes of Herefordshire unique.
- The Open Space Assessment identifies the need for, and provision of open space across Herefordshire.
- The Habitat and Species Analysis underpins the evidence of the wider Local Plan and will be used to inform the Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
LUC's digital initiatives prioritise inclusivity, creating a fully accessible website experience.
The project demonstrates how digital technology can improve the functionality of Local Plan evidence, by ensuring wider public access, while maintaining effectiveness.
"It was a pleasure working with knowledgeable and consummate professionals. The final result has been widely acclaimed and endorsed both internally and externally. LUC embraced our brief and thinking around an innovative 'holistic' approach and delivered the goods. An exceptional team and we look forward to working with them again in the future."
