Cecilia Galleano, Historic Environment Consultant at LUC, recently showcased her expertise at the Theoretical Roman Archaeology Conference (RAC/TRAC), held at University College London.
With over 35 sessions covering diverse topics, the event attracted professionals worldwide.
Cecilia delivered a presentation titled 'Archaeologists Unframed: The Shape of Perceptions Beyond the Profession'. Her talk highlighted the misrepresentations surrounding archaeological fieldwork and emphasised the importance of recognising the combination of intellectual and physical skills required by archaeologists.
Cecilia said, "The perceptions of archaeological fieldwork can often be partial or misrepresented, leading to underestimation of its significance."
She further addressed the challenges archaeologists face, including difficult working conditions, and the implications of devaluing their work. Cecilia's paper concluded with practical suggestions for improvement through theoretical approaches.
Reflecting on her experience, Cecilia said, "It was great to present at the conference and engage in stimulating discussions with authors of papers tackling archaeological theory, gender, and long term disability on site ."
The event not only provided a platform for Cecilia to showcase LUC's expertise but also facilitated valuable networking opportunities within the Historic Environment community.
