A triumph of collaborative design
The Lab represents the third phase of ARU Peterborough University Quarter and exemplifies the power of collaborative placemaking. As landscape architects, LUC worked alongside MCW Architects, Morgan Sindall, Mace, Smith and Wallwork, and CPW to create a transformative space that benefits both students and the wider community.
"We are absolutely thrilled to announce that The Lab at ARU Peterborough has won this prestigious Pineapples Award in the Building category," said Jon Bannister, Associate Director of Landscape Architecture at LUC. "This win recognises the project's dedication to positively impacting people and places."
The Lab stands out for its focus on sustainability, community integration, and accessibility. The design incorporates flexible spaces that adapt to the evolving needs of Peterborough, ensuring the building will serve the city for generations to come.
Breaking down barriers through landscape
Our landscape design plays a crucial role in the project's success. LUC created pedestrian-friendly connections that invite community members into the campus space, transforming previously underutilised car parks into vibrant, accessible environments.
The landscape extends the building's "no barriers" philosophy into the outdoor spaces, strengthening the vital relationship between the university and the city.
A testament to shared vision
This achievement celebrates the vision of ARU Peterborough, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority, and Peterborough City Council. Their commitment to creating spaces that inspire and connect has been recognised on a national stage.
"The Lab, with its focus on sustainability, community, and accessibility for all, offers flexible spaces to ensure it can adapt and thrive, serving the evolving needs of Peterborough for years to come," added Jon.
We extend our congratulations to all partners involved in this outstanding project and look forward to seeing The Lab continue to make a positive impact on Peterborough's urban landscape.
