LUC’s Landscape Architects, Mark Fisk and Katie Duff attended the opening of Furrells Park by Countryside Partnerships and The Hyde Group.
The park is located adjacent to the River Medway and within the latest phase of the Rochester Riverside Residential Development Area. Children from Rochester Riverside’s Primary School and local families were the first to test the play equipment.
The natural fluid forms of the River Medway influenced the design of the park. The play equipment and path networks provide opportunities for children to undertake physical activity. The meandering paths, smaller explorer paths, undulating landscape, trees and planting help to promote imaginative play. Native trees and shrubs provide a buffer between the residential development.
The park provides an important green corridor for wildlife. An attenuation basin planted with native riverside grasses and plants provides a new wildlife environment at the lowest level of the park. The boardwalk offers users opportunities to interact and enjoy the resource.
