LUC is pleased to announce that the University of Glasgow Western Campus has been selected as a finalist in the Public Realm/Landscaping category at the Scottish Design Awards.
The university enlisted LUC and Arup to help expand the historic campus in Glasgow's West End onto the former Western Infirmary Hospital site. This major £1 billion regeneration project features new faculty buildings and extensive public spaces.
As a key member of the site infrastructure delivery team, LUC was responsible for designing all landscape and public realm elements for the project. The design integrates new streets, lanes, and significant civic spaces, including a central square in the development.
The design approach took into account the sensitivity of historic buildings on the existing campus and former hospital site, as well as the site's connection to Kelvingrove Park.
"It's a great honour to see our work at the University of Glasgow Western Campus recognised by the Scottish Design Awards judges. Our design reflects a commitment to enhancing the university's reputation as a world-class centre for education and research. We have created spaces that encourage social interaction between students, staff, and the surrounding community as well as integrating SUDS and enhanced biodiversity. We're thrilled to see these spaces being appreciated and enjoyed by everyone."
