Meet our talented new Glasgow staff

We’ve recently welcomed four new members to our expanding Glasgow team across many areas of the company. Find our more about their experience, expertise and how they can support your projects below.

David Ferguson: Principal Landscape Planner

David is a Landscape Architect with over 13 years’ experience and joins the Landscape Planning and Management team from SLR Consulting. He has a strong background in LVIA but has also provided landscape design services, supervision for site works and input to masterplan and landscape strategy development.

Recently, David was an author for the North West Coast Connection project for National Grid; he has been part of the team developing a restoration strategy for a former steelworks site in North Ayrshire and has helped two operators in gaining consent to extend their mineral workings. He has also been involved in several wind energy projects, trunk roads, commercial buildings and education facilities.

Away from work, David is a keen runner and cyclist and he is also interested in photography.

Heather Lafferty: Senior Ecologist

Heather joins the team with over five years’ experience in ecological consultancy.

Prior to joining LUC, Heather was the senior ecologist at Arcus Consultancy Services Ltd working on a variety of projects for public and private sector clients. She has extensive experience in undertaking a vast range of floral and faunal surveys for planning applications, discharge of conditions and operational monitoring. Heather has undertaken extensive work on construction sites, fulfilling the role of Ecological Clerk of Works, monitoring compliance with relevant legislation and planning documents. Heather’s project portfolio includes a number of large scale onshore wind projects, in addition to various hydro schemes, solar parks, battery storage and residential sites. Her role has also included acting as project manager for a number of large and small-scale projects.

Fraser Bell: Senior Environmental Planner

With a background in wind farm development and planning, Fraser has held a number of project management roles in the wind energy industry over the past seven years. Prior to joining LUC, he was a Project Development Manager for Wind Prospect and was responsible for managing a number of projects through the planning process. Most recently, he managed the planning submission of the three turbine (10.8MW) Burnfoot East Wind Farm in Clackmannanshire, which gained consent in 2017.

Fraser has wide ranging experience of many environmental areas including renewable energy, site appraisal and design, Environmental Impact Assessment, GIS, aviation assessment, landowner negotiations, stakeholder engagement, planning appeals, and writing sections of Environmental Statements. He has a strong interest in aviation and planning, which he brings with him to LUC.

Jennifer Ormiston: Consultant Environmental Planner

Jenni has joined the Environmental Planning team and, with an MSc in Environmental Management, brings with her a sound knowledge of Planning-related topics, including EIA. Jenni worked as a Graduate EIA Consultant after graduating in 2013, working on a range of projects including supporting the co-ordination of EIA for overhead transmission line reinforcements. She then went on to work as a Project Environmental Manager for a main building contractor, implementing company environmental management procedures and ensuring environmental compliance for a range of public and private sector projects. In her new role, Jenni will be providing support to the Environmental Planning team and is currently assisting with the EIA co-ordination for the KTR Reinforcement Project for SPEN.

Outside of work, Jenni volunteers as a Rainbows leader with GirlGuiding and she is also an Outdoor Education Assistant with a local Forest School. When there is time she enjoys running, hill walking and yoga.

Sam Oxley, Director of Landscape Planning & Management, said: “We are delighted to announce that the LUC Glasgow team has been expanded with several new recruits, who will be helping us across the spectrum of the landscape, ecology, planning and EIA work that we offer.  These people are excellent and welcome additions to our team.”
