Persimmon Homes appoint LUC to support the masterplan vision at Gavieside Farm

Persimmon Homes is moving forward with proposals for a mixed-use development at Gavieside Farm in West Lothian.

The proposals include building new housing alongside a village centre with an accompanying primary school. It introduces employment opportunities, open green spaces, and associated transport and landscape infrastructure to the village.

LUC are working collaboratively with Collective Architecture, Pegasus Consultancy, Modus Transport Solutions, and ITP Energised, among others. Our Landscape Architecture team are carrying out extensive opportunities and constraints exercises to develop the design, masterplan layout, and landscape framework. Taking a cross discipline approach, our Landscape Planning and Management team are also providing the landscape and visual inputs required. The landscape assessments will be integral to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) linked to the Planning Permission in Principle (PPiP) application.

After gathering information, conducting landscape analysis, and testing options, LUC is developing the landscape framework and strategy vision. This will align with the emerging masterplan which is led by Collective Architecture. Key considerations include shaping our response around National Planning Framework 4 and the principles of the local community.

The team participated in two community consultation events to date. Both were well attended by local residents and offered insights into local issues, including: place identity, access connections, and health and wellbeing.

Persimmon Homes is progressing the project in two parts: a detailed planning application for Cleugh Brae and PPiP for the whole Gavieside masterplan. LUC will prepare the developed landscape design for the Cleigh Brae site, which forms the first phase of the wider masterplan.

LUC is delighted to be working with such a fantastic team on a progressive project which will continue into 2024.
