LUC is delighted to receive planning consent for a new solar farm at Rhigos Road, outside Hirwaun in South Wales, on behalf of our client Regener8 Power.
Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council members voted to approve the proposals after noting the positive contributions the scheme would make. These include the Council’s commitment to have a net zero carbon footprint by 2050.
The project will make an important contribution to improving energy security by expanding the number of sources of home-grown renewable energy projects to reduce our reliance on external fossil fuels and strengthen resilience.
The solar farm has a maximum capacity of 9.8 MW and will offset a total of 2,600 tonnes of carbon each year. The energy generated will be able to power 3,900 homes. This will increase the amount of renewable energy that can be delivered to the grid and reduce the need for energy from fossil fuels.
This was a real team effort with our Planning, Ecology, Heritage, Landscape Planning and Transport teams involved, alongside RSK and Cadence PR.
Our services included:
- Advising on planning strategy
- Providing the Planning, Design and Access Statement
- Close liaison with statutory bodies and other key stakeholders
- Preparation of a Landscaping Plan, and Landscape and Visual Appraisal
- Writing a Historic Environment Assessment
- Production of a Transport Assessment
- Carrying out ecology surveys and producing an Ecological Assessment
- Coordinating other specialist inputs and submitting the planning application
- Providing planning support post-submission, resolving objections and requests for further information to reach Officer recommendation for approval.
This positive outcome is a testament to our teams' dedication, passion and hard work in supporting net zero and decarbonising our energy systems.
