LUC hosts successful stakeholder engagement event in Caernarfon
Last week, LUC led a successful stakeholder engagement event in Caernarfon. Jacq Whitworth-Allan, Emily Blackwell, and Ben Wayles facilitated the event to gather input on the new public realm space planned for Caernarfon town centre.
The proposed space will connect Cei Llechi, an artisan shopping village, with the iconic Caernarfon Castle.
The event took place at the spacious Welsh Highland Railway station. It began with a bilingual presentation. Cyngor Gwynedd Council delivered the Welsh-language section, while Jacq Whitworth-Allan presented in English.
To ensure full participation, the LUC team wore headphones during the Welsh presentation and used live translation services. All event materials were available in both Welsh and English, in accordance with the Welsh Language Act 1993.
This legislation requires public organisations to treat both languages equally when providing services in Wales. Notably, 81.5% of Caernarfon's population speaks Welsh.
Following the presentations, the attendees split into two workshop groups to discuss the project’s vision and concept designs.
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees shared supportive comments and helpful ideas, which will shape the development of the design.
LUC will now incorporate the feedback into a preferred design.
The goal is to create a multi-purpose, pedestrian-friendly, and vibrant public realm space that reflects Caernarfon’s unique character.
