We are thrilled to share that the University of Glasgow Western Campus has been honoured with a Pineapples Award in the ‘Place in Progress’ category. The award was accepted by Duncan McLean, Director of Landscape Architecture at LUC, on behalf of the entire project team at the Pineapples Party.
The University of Glasgow appointed LUC to help extend its historic campus into the former Western Infirmary site. The aim was to create a vibrant new urban quarter with world-class facilities while respecting the sensitive historic context.
LUC's design plays a key role in establishing a thriving new urban hub, featuring community spaces at its core. Enhanced accessibility ensures everyone can enjoy the new public square, streets, and lanes. A commitment to sustainability ensures the development respects the environment and promotes a healthy lifestyle.
LUC's masterplan for the University of Glasgow's expansion creates a cohesive public realm. We designed all landscape elements, including a large new public square, inviting streets, pedestrian lanes, and innovative rain gardens. The design seamlessly integrates with the historic campus and surrounding area, prioritising pedestrian access.
This creates a welcoming environment that encourages exploration and interaction for students, faculty, and the wider community.
"Receiving a Pineapples awards is an incredible achievement for us all, and I am delighted that the project has been recognised in this way."
