Bath & North East Somerset Council commissioned LUC to create woodland opportunity maps to guide future tree planting strategies.

This will ensure the right trees are planted in the right places, considering landscape character and ecological benefits.

The project empowers informed decision-making on tree planting, promoting biodiversity gains and a more attractive landscape for residents and visitors.

LUC's landscape sensitivity assessment identified suitable areas for woodland planting while considering the unique character of each landscape type within Bath & North East Somerset.

The project provides an interactive StoryMap, an online platform, to guide stakeholders and the public towards optimal locations for woodland planting, contributing to the council's ambitious tree-planting targets.

The StoryMap format ensures the project's findings are accessible to a wide audience, including people with different abilities.

Users can explore the map at their own pace, with clear visuals, text, and interactive features.
