Placemaking and heritage protection
Bristol Zoological Society commissioned LUC to work on the Landscape Masterplan for the award-winning grounds of Bristol Zoo Gardens.
The plans for the site will create 201 new homes, of which 20% will be affordable.
They will also regenerate the 186-year-old gardens, and create a play area, a conservation hub, and a café.
Nature-led communities
The plans protect the site’s historical buildings and include a mix of sustainable, high-quality, much-needed housing.
LUC’s landscape design prioritises the site’s biodiversity, sustainability and ecology and aims to create new nature-led communities.
“Bristolians and visitors to the city can come and enjoy the gardens, play area, lake, natural wildlife, and heritage buildings. After occupying the site for 186 years, we’ll create a legacy for Bristol Zoo Gardens, making it free for the public, while protecting and improving the lives of the amazing animals in a new world-class Bristol Zoo.”

Prioritising sustainability and sensitivity
LUC’s Masterplan for the gardens places environmental sustainability, ecology, conservation and sensitivity to heritage and landscape at the heart of the scheme.
Our innovative and sensitive designs include plans to give new life to existing historical features, such as the Monkey Temple building to protect them for future generations.
The nature, heritage and character of the Zoo gardens will provide an idyllic landscape setting for future residents and visitors to enjoy.
