About the project
Countryside Properties and the London Borough of Bromley formed a joint venture to deliver Churchill Quarter, a new housing development in the centre of Bromley, South London.
The proposed development comprises 400 new homes and is adjacent to the historic Churchill Theatre and the local conservation area, as well as a significant green space.
Public realm design
LUC produced planning application designs and drawings for the new Quarter, working closely with Stitch Architects and a wider design team made up of engineers, planners and a local steering group. The design aimed to seamlessly tie the new development into the existing urban fabric of this thriving market town.
The scheme reinvigorates the pedestrian-only civic spaces and provides additional open space in a promenade between the new apartment buildings. It includes a new public water feature and a playable walk through the gardens to provide door-step play for residents and the general public.
The proposals include generous amounts of green space and a variety of places to sit, such as the lawns on the promenade or the busier, more active space around the fountain. The masterplan aims to appeal to a wide range of users, whether providing play space, quiet space or somewhere to have lunch.
