Supporting Maidstone’s growth

Maidstone Borough Council commissioned LUC to support the development and ensure the sustainability of their Local Plan Review.

This revised plan will guide development in the borough until 2038, aiming to meet housing needs, create jobs, and protect the environment.

Protecting nature alongside development

LUC's work ensured that environmental considerations were embedded throughout the Local Plan Review process.

This will lead to a more sustainable future for Maidstone's communities and its natural areas.

Guiding sustainable development

LUC carried out a comprehensive Sustainability Appraisal (SA) to assess the plan's effects on environmental, social, and economic objectives.

This included multiple consultations and revisions to ensure the plan aligns with sustainability goals.

Safeguarding protected sites

LUC also undertook a Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) to ensure the Local Plan would not adversely affect European Sites of ecological importance.

Through technical work and consultation, LUC ensured the plan includes mitigation measures to prevent negative effects on these valuable habitats and species.

Delivering a sustainable Local Plan

LUC's combined SA and HRA expertise helped Maidstone Borough Council achieve a Local Plan that is both ambitious for growth and respectful of the natural environment.

This plan will guide the borough's sustainable development for the next 15 years.
