Northampton Borough Council (NBC) commissioned LUC to provide a suite of services to support the development of their Local Plan Part 2 (LP2), a key document guiding growth and regeneration in the Borough until 2029.

Our work ensured the LP2 balanced environmental protection with development needs.

LUC's work on the Northampton LP2 helped the Borough prioritise sustainable development.

Communities will benefit from new homes and employment opportunities, alongside protected green spaces and improved infrastructure.

LUC's Sustainability Appraisal (SA) identified key sustainability issues, including balancing development and environmental protection. 

We appraised alternative options to ensure the LP2 prioritises sustainable transport and infrastructure improvements. The SA's findings informed decision-making throughout the LP2 development process.

A Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) ensured the LP2 would not adversely affect European Sites of ecological importance, including sites along the River Nene valley.

LUC collaborated with Natural England to assess potential impacts and develop mitigation measures where necessary.

LUC's ecological expertise also informed the LP2 through strategic ecological advice. 

We assessed the ecological implications of development options and provided guidance on incorporating green spaces into new developments.

This promotes biodiversity and creates a healthier environment for residents.
