Protecting nature, enhancing communities

LUC supported the Partnership for South Hampshire (PfSH) in exploring ways to protect and enhance their valuable open countryside.

A greener future for South Hampshire

Our work helped PfSH identify the best planning policy mechanisms to achieve its goals.

This included assessing the potential of creating a new Green Belt designation, Green Infrastructure (GI) strategies, and other landscape-scale protections.

Policy Options Review

LUC's initial Policy Options report provided a clear overview of the available policy tools.

We assessed the strengths and weaknesses of each approach, considering factors like ease of implementation and effectiveness at delivering PfSH's ambitions.

Strategic Green and Blue Infrastructure Opportunities

Following the Policy Options Review, LUC produced a follow-up report that identified key opportunities for strategic Green and Blue Infrastructure (GBI) across South Hampshire.

This included mapping areas with the potential to deliver significant environmental benefits, such as improved access to nature, habitat creation, and flood risk management.

Delivering a sustainable future

Our recommendations will help PfSH make informed decisions about protecting their precious countryside.

By strategically planning for GBI, South Hampshire is helping to deliver a sustainable future where nature and development can thrive together.
