Designing and assessing wind farms
Bute Energy commissioned LUC to lead the sensitive design of the proposed Twyn Hywel Energy Park.
This development of 14 wind turbines is northwest of Caerphilly in South Wales.
We provided the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), including Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA), visualisations and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) services.
Sensitively designing renewable energy development
We worked alongside Bute Energy to ensure surrounding residents, settlements, and the environment were considered.
LUC’s teams assessed the impact the development would have on communities, the landscape, views, and public rights of way.
We also incorporated specialist input on biodiversity, the historic environment, hydrology, transport, access, and aviation when designing the energy park.
This sought to minimise potential negative effects and maximise the benefits of the development, both in terms of future recreation and the delivery of renewable energy to help tackle climate change.
Planning for recreation
Bute Energy is committed to improving the recreational offerings of the area alongside its energy developments.
LUC developed a Strategic Recreation Framework to indicate the potential options for improving recreational access to the Site.
This framework aims to promote improved access to green space for local communities, offer quality recreational opportunities, and demonstrate interventions that conserve and enhance the environment.
Expert witness services
LUC worked alongside Bute Energy during the examination process, providing written representations and expert witnesses in landscape and visual impact, public rights of way and EIA methodology.
