Supporting a Local Plan
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council commissioned LUC to provide comprehensive evidence on landscape character and sensitivity to inform the Welwyn Hatfield Local Plan review.
This included a Landscape Sensitivity Assessment, Green Wedge Study, and Stage 2 Green Corridor Framework Report.
Protecting and enhancing local landscapes
LUC's Landscape Sensitivity Assessment played a vital role in ensuring that the Local Plan considers the landscape's sensitivity to residential development.
Green Gap Study
LUC's Green Gap Study provided a detailed analysis of the role gaps play by providing a sense of separation and maintaining settlement pattern and character.
This assessment considered gap size, strength, character, values and opportunities and provided a recommendation for each gap.
The study also provided guidance to minimise the impact of future development on gaps between settlements.
Green Corridor Framework Report
In parallel with the Landscape Sensitivity Assessment, LUC developed a Stage 2 Green Corridor Framework Report.
This report identified and assessed the green corridors within Welwyn Hatfield, highlighting their importance for wildlife movement and recreation.
