About

Niall has over 35 years’ experience in ecology, biodiversity and sustainability, working across public, private and voluntary sectors.

As a professional ecologist, Niall has managed ecological input to large-scale development schemes, including renewable energy schemes and Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects. He has managed extensive survey contracts for public bodies including SSSI Condition Assessment surveys for Natural England.

Niall has particular expertise in Habitat Regulations Assessment, for plans and projects. He has also acted as an expert ecology witness at a number of public inquiries, most recently for Network Rail’s Transpennine Route Upgrade (West of Leeds).

Niall sits on CIEEM’s England Policy Group. He has also worked on Sustainability Appraisal, including developing approaches to Integrated Impact Assessment.
