LUC is supporting several developers in submitting bids under Forestry and Land Scotland’s Energy Offering 2019 scheme.
FLS is looking for proposals for renewable energy sites and storage on Scotland’s national forests and land. The aim is to support the Scottish Government’s emission reduction targets and help tackle the climate emergency.
We are advising on the suitability for wind and solar energy and battery storage on a number of sites. Our experts are identifying the most suitable areas by mapping environmental constraints through both field work and desk-based studies. We are also designing wind farm layouts and advising on suitable turbine sizes.
The use of taller turbines is one of our key consideration to help meet carbon emission targets. We are also considering the requirement for permanent aviation lighting on turbines over 150m to blade tip when providing advice on project risk, particularly in places where dark skies are recognised as a special quality.
Working closely with developers throughout the process, to balance commercial and wind yield considerations, LUC has sought to provide robust and well-evidenced advice which focuses on realistic and ultimately consentable development options.
