LUC working with Oberlanders Architects has produced a Regeneration Study and Action Plan for Galashiels town centre, on behalf of Energise Galashiels Trust.
The ‘Tapestry Way’ study formulates a vision to re-energise Galashiels and facilitate town centre transformation.
The study area is based on the Tapestry Way Trail area identified by Galashiels Heartland of the Borders.
The study seeks to:
- Analyse Galashiels’ unique assets, its place identity and appeal;
- Identify areas of opportunity with the principle aim of energising and creating improved town centre vibrancy;
- Establish an action plan of projects for further consideration, prioritisation and implementation over a short and medium time frame.
The study made use of valuable local knowledge and feedback by directly engaging with stakeholders and residents. We undertook a varied range of consultation exercises, including:
- Two open days at The Great Tapestry of Scotland in Galashiels
- An online survey
- Virtual stakeholder workshops
- A virtual workshop with Galashiels Academy
The events and survey received positive reviews, with high attendance and engagement from a diverse range of people.
In particular, the online survey had over 526 respondents – representative of Galashiels’s whole population ±5%, with 95% confidence.
Collectively, the consultation exercises received input from over 800 people.
LUC worked closely with Oberlanders Architects, in conjunction with Cundall and CBA. The project was funded by South of Scotland Enterprise and Scottish Borders Council.
