Glasgow Claypits honoured for public health and wellbeing
This week, Glasgow Claypits picked up two national awards for its contributions to public health and wellbeing.
At the Scottish Civil Engineering Awards on Thursday, CECA Scotland awarded The Claypits in its Community Wellbeing category.
The prestigious ceremony recognises engineering excellence in the built environment in Scotland.
Later that day, The Claypits was then Highly Commended for Health and Wellbeing at the Nature of Scotland Awards in Edinburgh.
A collaboration between RSPB and NatureScot, the awards celebrate the best of nature conservation in Scotland.
LUC has had extensive involvement with The Claypits, working closely with Scottish Canals and partners for many years.
The project has transformed 17ha of post-industrial ‘Vacant and Derelict’ land into Glasgow’s only inner-city Nature Reserve.
This ‘wild’ greenspace delivers significant health and wellbeing benefits for communities that have historically suffered from poor health statistics.
The Claypits has now won six awards, adding to a Pineapple Award earlier this year, Living Waterways and Scottish Design Awards in 2018, and a Landscape Institute Award in 2016.
