Headstone Manor Park in London Borough of Harrow is to receive a £1.1m grant to rejuvenate the green space surrounding the moated Headstone Manor Museum.
The 20ha public park was developed in the 1920s on a historic manor that dates back to the 13th century. LUC has designed sustainable drainage and water management systems which are key components of the regeneration project. The scheme aims to preserve the moat by constructing a sedimentation pond to improve water quality. Environmental education opportunities will be created along the Yeading Brook, which will be widened and naturalised with wetlands and reed beds. As well as enhancements to the natural history of the site, the reinstatement of a fruit orchard will restore some of the character of the ancient manor and farmstead. LUC has also designed new footpaths, trails and interpretation that will improve access to the site for all, and the borough hopes to increase annual visitors to the park to over 250,000.
London Borough of Harrow is managing the transformational project with help from local organisations such as Thames 21 and Green Corridor and LUC has been working with the Borough for over a year to develop the detailed designs for the scheme.
