Four existing play areas within public parks in Hounslow, London have been re-designed by LUC, as part of the Hounslow Active Spaces project, to offer a full range of activities known to be critical for healthy physical and mental development.
All four sites are now open to the public, following extensive community engagement and participation throughout. Hounslow Active Spaces promotes the benefits of outdoor play and physical activity to health and wellbeing, encouraging children and their families to be more active.
Matthew Ryder, Deputy Mayor of London for Social Integration, Social Mobility and Community Engagement, visited St Dunstan’s Park play area in Feltham on Thursday 7 June. He joined local school children and teachers from Oakhill Academy to talk about their role as Green Ambassadors. He was interested to hear about the community engagement process undertaken by LUC and the London Borough of Hounslow and the work of volunteers who helped to refurbish existing play equipment and establish new planting areas.
The volunteering was organised through the contractor Idverde through Hands on London and London Community Rehabilitation Company Probation Teams.
