LUC is undertaking a Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) for 10 proposed wind sites on behalf of Teignbridge District Council.
These wind energy allocations form part of the Teignbridge Local Plan, currently out for public and stakeholder consultation.
In response to Historic England concerns, our specialist Historic Environment team will conduct a high-level review using Zones of Theoretical Visibility (ZTVs) produced by our GIS & Visualisation team. These ZTVs will establish key issues and identify preferred sites, in collaboration with the council planning team.
Following this, our team will conduct a full assessment of the preferred sites using our well-established methodology for site allocations. This will provide the authority with clear evidence on the heritage significance of assets that wind development would likely affect.
It will also provide a necessary focus on the contribution of setting and how that could change, what options may be available to avoid and/or reduce effects, and the level of harm likely to arise.
This HIA continues LUC’s extensive involvement in developing the Teignbridge Local Plan. Our Landscape Planning & Management (LPM) team previously produced a Landscape Sensitivity Assessment for the proposed wind sites. Our LPM team continues to support the client with Landscape Evidence.
Local authorities have a critical role in making sustainable sites for low carbon energy generation available, to tackle the conjoined climate and energy security crises. LUC is delighted to help ensure the best available evidence is used to inform these decisions.
