This week, Perth and Kinross Council submitted their bid to Scottish Government for the designation of a new national park in northern Perthshire, called Tay Forest National Park.
National Parks aim to conserve and enhance natural and cultural heritage, promote sustainable use of natural resources, promoting understanding and enjoyment of the area, and promote sustainable social and economic development of communities in the area.
The Scottish Government has committed to designating at least one new National Park before the end of the current parliamentary session in 2026. Last year, they invited bid submissions from nominating groups and organisations.
LUC’s strategic planning team have supported Perth and Kinross Council with the preparation of their bid and undertook the following work:
- Preparation of materials for and support with community consultation on the bid
- Delivery of bespoke workshops with specific interest groups
- Preparation of an evidence base to support the bid
- Preparation of a compelling case and the bid submission for the area’s designation as a National Park
The final bid was successfully submitted to the Scottish Government this week.
Following appraisal, nominations to be progressed as National Park proposals will be announced in the summer of 2024.
