Malls Mire Park in the east end of Glasgow has officially opened to the public, concluding a major urban regeneration project in the area.
Organisers marked the occasion with a community event including a treasure trail, wildlife-spotting, circus performers, face painting, and a BMX workshop.
The mixed-use park incorporates active travel connections, natural play, outdoor exercise and education facilities. It also features an improved local nature reserve, in addition to SuDs enhancements.
LUC designed the masterplan and acted as landscape architects for the project. It has transformed a 20ha area of former derelict land, and is the catalyst for further regeneration in the area.
Alison Thewliss, chair of Clyde Gateway and MP for Glasgow Central, formally unveiled the park with a commemorative plaque. She said:
“Malls Mire park boosts Glasgow’s reputation as a ‘dear green place’ even further and there can be no doubt that many of the city’s best green areas can be found in Clyde Gateway.
“I am thrilled to be officially opening the park and cannot wait to welcome visitors to this incredible redevelopment.”
Building with Nature recently commended the project for using its assessment process to inform high quality multifunctional green infrastructure.
Malls Mire is LUC’s latest Green Infrastructure project to revitalise an area of derelict land. It continues on from our work with the Claypits in North Glasgow, which opened in 2021.
