Bristol Zoological Society submits planning application for Bristol Zoo Gardens site
Bristol City Council has validated the planning application Bristol Zoological Society submitted for the new Bristol Zoo Gardens. Working alongside Penoyre & Prasad Architects, LUC designed the landscape masterplan for the unique site in Clifton, Bristol.
The plans for the 12-acre site include:
- Free public access to the 186-year-old gardens
- A new, publicly accessible children’s play area
- A new Clifton Conservation Hub and café
In addition, the proposed development will provide 201 high-quality new homes, of which 20% will be affordable. The design shows careful consideration of the highly-valued existing trees and gardens, whilst providing significant new tree and shrub planting as part of the proposals.
Our work brings new life to the gardens’ existing historical features, such as the Monkey Temple building, protecting them for future generations to enjoy. The iconic Zoo entrance building will become the Clifton Conservation Hub – a public café with indoor and outdoor seating, exhibition space, education and meeting spaces.
