Blakedown and LUC secure SAPCA Award for Shoreditch Park Sports Hub

The Shoreditch Park Sports Hub, a collaboration between LUC and Blakedown Sport & Play, has won the ‘Large Sports or Play Project of the Year’ at the Sports and Play Construction Association (SAPCA) Awards 2024.

Blakedown Sport & Play, who led the award submission, was crucial in the success of the £2 million Shoreditch Park Improvement Project, completed in March 2023.

Initiated in 2019 with insights from 1,900 community members, the project transformed Shoreditch Park into a versatile recreational space.

Designed in collaboration with the local community, particularly young people, the Sports Hub now offers additional freely accessible sports facilities, ensuring it caters to community needs inclusively.

The Shoreditch Park Team, comprising Hackney Council, LUC, and principal contractor Blakedown, played a pivotal role in securing the award. Blakedown Sport & Play's commitment to practical landscape practices notably enhanced the project's quality and overall value.

The revitalised park now boasts upgraded features such as a refurbished children's play area, a new outdoor gym, a multi-use games area, a beach volleyball court, and improved informal sports pitch areas.

Beyond the visible enhancements, sustainable elements like rain gardens and wildflower meadows contribute to biodiversity, drainage, and climate resilience.

This SAPCA recognition underscores LUC's dedication to positive environmental change and recognises Blakedown Sport & Play's crucial role in realising this vision.

The award exemplifies the power of collaborative efforts in creating sustainable and impactful community spaces.
