LUC drives success for Stroudwater Missing Mile Project approval

Last month, the planning application for the Missing Mile project received a resolution to grant permission from the Stroud District Council Development Control Committee (subject to securing a legal agreement to cover planning obligations).

LUC played a key role in submitting the planning application, including preparing the planning statement, the environmental statement, and the flood risk sequential and exception test report.

Appointed by Cotswold Canals Connected, LUC took charge of preparing the application aimed at reinstating a crucial section of the Stroudwater Canal – the 'Missing Mile'.

This stretch of the canal had been entirely filled in during the M5 construction. The approved project involves creating a new canal channel and developing essential infrastructure, such as locks, mooring basins, car parking, a leisure facility, and a cafe/pub building with an integrated office and residence for the basin manager.

LUC meticulously crafted the Environmental Statement, identifying, assessing, and presenting all potential environmental impacts. Through close collaboration with stakeholders, our experts navigated complex land use challenges, ensuring alignment with local policies and regulations. Our innovative solutions played a pivotal role in meeting stringent criteria set by authorities.

With this exciting milestone, LUC remains steadfast in upholding the highest environmental standards. We are eager to continue our impactful work, driving positive change, and contributing to establishing sustainable, resilient communities.
