Making the seafront shine for residents and visitors

LUC, on behalf of Arun District Council, secured planning permission for the reimagination of Littlehampton Seafront.

The £7.2 million government grant project aims to create a lively and welcoming space for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Creating a welcoming destination for all

The regeneration will bring a much-needed boost to the local economy, with new attractions and amenities encouraging people to stay longer and enjoy the reimagined seafront environment.

Public spaces will be improved, making the seafront more accessible for everyone. This includes better paths, upgraded parking, new toilet block, foreshore facility and recreation hub.

Bringing fun and play to the seafront

LUC's masterplan reimagines underused spaces. A new extensive water play feature and splash pad promises fun for children and the pop up marketplace will provide opportunities to stay longer.

A new free to use activity hub with a range of all-ages leisure and sports facilities will provide opportunity for exercise and friendly competition.

Boosting biodiversity

Sustainability is a key focus of the project. The design incorporates plenty of green space, with new trees and new coastal habitat to increase biodiversity. This goes beyond the minimum requirement, showcasing a commitment to a healthy environment.

Additionally, features like a recycled water system for the water play feature will help reduce the project's environmental footprint.

Community collaboration to shape the seafront

Public input has been at the heart of this project. Over 70% of residents who participated in a consultation last year gave their approval to the plans.

LUC's collaborative approach ensures the final design reflects the needs and desires of the Littlehampton community.

Delivering visions to reality

LUC's multi-disciplinary team led the planning application, transforming the vision into a reality.

Landscape architects crafted a user-friendly multi-functional design incorporating new features including a pop-up market, activity hub, and water play area.

Ecological expertise ensured a biodiversity boost exceeding requirements, while arborists protected existing trees.

Sustainable drainage solutions minimise environmental impact. Our planning team worked closely with the design team and ensured the project vision was clearly communicated in the planning application and supported with the necessary detailed material addressed issues raised through the consultation process and supported the application at committee.
