Building a modern junior school

Royal Russell School, a leading educational institution, partnered with LUC to seek permission for a new Junior School building.

The project aims to deliver a modern learning environment that prioritises sustainability and fosters a strong sense of community. LUC prepared the planning application and some supporting documents.

LUC supplied the Planning Statement, Green Belt Statement, Healthy Urban Planning Checklist, Ecological Surveys, Historic Environment Assessment, and Stakeholder Engagement Statement.

Enhancing education, environment and community

The new Junior School will provide a stimulating learning environment for students while promoting environmental responsibility and fostering community engagement.

This project represents a positive contribution to Croydon's social and ecological landscape.

Supporting the planning application

To secure planning approval, LUC provided a comprehensive set of documents that demonstrably addressed all requirements.

A Green Belt Statement addressed the Very Special Circumstances justifying development within the protected area.

Additionally, a Design and Access Statement by Jestico + Whiles detailed the building's design principles and accessibility features, while detailed architectural drawings and specifications provided a clear picture of the construction plan.

This thorough documentation addressed all planning considerations and supported the Royal Russell School's vision.

Sustainable design

The design incorporates features such as a compact form for efficiency, natural light and ventilation, and renewable energy sources (solar PV & air source heat pumps).

The application championed sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and a net positive impact on biodiversity.

Community focus

The project extends its benefits beyond the student body. Modern facilities could be shared with the community, enriching educational opportunities.

Additionally, a new Multi-use Games Area (MUGA) will enhance recreational opportunities for the community.

LUC recognised the importance of this by ensuring the planning application clearly outlined these potential community benefits.
