The new Pavilion Bar and Grill recently opened at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew after LUC provided design and planning advice.
The upgrade of the Pavilion restaurant accompanies the improvement works to the Temperate House and Chinese Pagoda. This is to support Kew with a new year-round catering facility that celebrates al fresco dining within the landscape.
The landscape scheme is designed to complement the architecture of the new building, to preserve its more secluded character within the setting of that corner of the gardens. Numerous existing trees and climbing vines have been retained. They integrate into the new scheme to enhance the outdoor dining experience. The southern edge of the dining area features a stone garden in the form of a stream. This emphasises the character of the Chinese Pagoda whilst protecting exposed tree roots.
LUC’s planners secured planning permission for the replacement building. Our ecologists developed mitigation proposals to address the presence of bat roosts. They also provided support to obtain a Natural England licence.
We are happy to help enhance the economic vitality and conservation of the gardens, protecting its status as a World Heritage Site, Registered Park and Garden and Conservation Area.
The project is part of the Kew Capital Development Programme. The programme spans a five year period and invests £50 million into upgrading the garden’s facilities.
